Dr. Levy has a rich history of accomplishment in the Medical Device Industry. He currently is a venture partner at Frazier Healthcare Ventures. Most recently, he was the President and CEO of Northstar Neuroscience, a company developing innovative therapies for neurological diseases and disorders. He led the company through its initial public offering and clinical program for the company’s unique Neurostimulation therapy.
Dr. Levy previously served as President and CEO of Heartstream, a company that developed, manufactured, and marketed an innovative automatic external defibrillator (AED) that revolutionized the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest. He successfully guided the company through product development, several rounds of venture financing, FDA clearance and product launch, an IPO, worldwide sales, and ultimately orchestrated the sale of the company to Hewlett-Packard. Prior to joining Heartstream, he was President of Heart Technology, a company that developed, manufactured, and marketed devices for removing plaque from coronary arteries. Dr. Levy effectively led Heart Technology through key business and product development milestones including FDA clearance, manufacturing scale-up, an IPO, and worldwide sales and distribution. The company was sold to Boston Scientific in 1995. Before joining Heart Technology, Dr. Levy was Vice President of Research and New Business Development and a member of the Board of the Ethicon division of Johnson & Johnson. At Ethicon, he was responsible for the acquisition and/or development of a large number of medical products, including synthetic absorbable sutures, coronary stents and surgical staplers.
Dr. Levy is a member of the Board of Trustees of Seattle Biomedical Research Institute, a not-for-profit institute conducting research on infectious diseases such as AIDS, malaria and pneumonia. He sits on the boards of Intuitive Surgical, Proteus Biomedical and Calypso Medical.

Dan is a seasoned executive with 25 years of medical device experience, who has worked in small entrepreneurial companies, as well as Fortune 500 corporations. Dan has served as the President & CEO of BaroSense, Inc. and as a member of its Board of Directors since October 2008. From 2002 to 2008, he held the position of General Manager and Vice President.
From 1988 to 2002, Dan served as Vice President, Research and Development and led the regulatory, clinical and research & development groups of RITA Medical Systems, a medical device company that pioneered advances in tumor ablation. RITA Medical Systems had a successful IPO in June of 2000.
From 1996 to 1998, Dan held the position of Worldwide Director, Research and Development for the Vascular Access Division of Johnson & Johnson Medical, Inc.
From 1987 to 1996, Dan held various engineering roles at Menlo Care, ultimately serving as the Director of Research and Development. Menlo Care was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in May of 1995. Dan began his career in an engineering role at American Pharmaseal.
Dan holds a BSME from California Polytechnic State University and is the author of over 75 patents and patent applications in the medical device field. |

Ken has over 23 years of experience bringing unique medical technologies to market. Prior to joining BaroSense in July of 2007 Ken spent 3 years as Vice President of Clinical and Business Development for Spiration Inc., a medical device company developing minimally implantable devices for the treatment of lung disease.
Previous to Spiration, Ken was Vice President of Sales for Vertis Neuroscience. He was responsible for commercialization and reimbursement support for the company’s Percutaneous Neurostimulation Therapy. Ken also spent 6 years in senior Sales and Marketing roles with Perclose Inc., a medical device company that develops arterial sealing devices for the interventional cardiology and radiology markets that was acquired by Abbott Labs. |

Steve Fermi has more than 25 years of experience directing clinical trials, primarily with medical device companies. Prior to joining BaroSense in July of 2007, beginning in November of 2001, he served as Executive Director of Clinical Affairs at Broncus Technologies, Inc., a medical device company working in the areas of asthma and emphysema. In December of 2003, he joined the team that spun off from Broncus to form Asthmatx, Inc., where he served as Executive Director of Clinical Affairs until June of 2007.
Prior to Broncus/Asthmatx, Steve was Director of Clinical Affairs for three years at Cygnus, Inc., and also worked for two years at KeraVision and over seven years at Nellcor, Inc., as Director of Clinical Studies. He has a B.S. in biological science from BALL State University, an M.S. in Biology from San Francisco State University and an MBA from Berkeley. |

Desiree joined BaroSense in January of 2002. She is currently the Senior Director of Human Resources and Business Administration, with responsibilities for finance and accounting, human resources and the implementation and maintenance of business systems as the company continues to grow. Prior to joining BaroSense, Desiree worked in the areas of High Tech, Biotechnology and Medical Devices. In her various roles, she has worked side by side with executive management, focusing on the areas of business administration, intellectual property, investor relations and budget and project management.
Before coming to Silicon Valley, Desiree served as an Executive Manager in the field of international trade for more than 7 years. In her roles she has worked both in Europe as well as in the United States and her duties encompassed the completion of large international trade transactions, negotiations with customs authorities on a global level and execution of multi-million dollar international financial transactions.
Desiree holds undergraduate degrees in Legal Studies and in Economics both obtained in Germany, and a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. |

Dave joined BaroSense in 2005 as leader of the research and development team. Prior to BaroSense, Dave was a key lead and the creative force behind the products of AneuRx and Ventrica, treating vascular disease, and Apneon, treating sleep apnea. He gained engineering experience in the aerospace and automotive industries before working in the medical device field. Dave earned a bachelor’s degree in Physics at Middlebury College and a masters degree in mechanical engineering at Purdue University. |

In November of 2007, Paul joined the BaroSense team as Director of Operations. Before joining BaroSense, Paul held positions in the design and manufacture of cardiovascular devices; he led teams at Endovascular Technologies, Guidant, Ventrica, and Cierra Inc. Starting as a manufacturing engineer, Paul has also held positions in Research and Development, Engineering management, and Manufacturing management. Paul holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University with an emphasis in biomedical technology. |

Sheila is an engineer by training, but over the past 15 years, she has successfully filled roles in the areas of Research, R&D Engineering, Professional Education and Training, Clinical Affairs, and most recently, Regulatory Affairs. Sheila began working with the BaroSense team in 2007, after previous experience at Bausch and Lomb, Kyphon and Apneon. She holds a BS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa as well as MS and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. She has published in the fields of voice acoustics, orthopedic biomechanics and sleep apnea. |
